Muscle Shoals

If you get a chance check this out. This little place in Alabama is responsible for such greats as Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” and “Think,” Willson Pickett’s “Hey Jude” & “Mustang Sally,” the Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar,” Paul Simon’s “Kodachrome,” Etta James’ “Tell Mama,” Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting in Limbo” and Percy Sledge cut “When a Man Loves a Woman.”  These are just some of the many notable artists that recorded there also including Bob Seger, Cher, Art Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, Lynard Skynard, Rod Stewart and Bob Dylan.

  1. Hey Mike, coming to stay with you for a week of vacation in a week (and very much looking forward to it!). Saw this on DVD and it is indeed one groovy flick. I even reviewed it on my blog.

  2. Etta James!
You ever see 20 Feet from Stardom? It’s about the backup singers. Just great.
If not, Netflix it, well worth it.
You don’t like it, I’ll pay for the rental, but I’m not worried about losing the $5…
We’re headed down to stay with you the week before Christmas, look forward to seeing you then
