 Great summer fares Elizabeth is back in the saddle and this means time for another blog. She just ran across this great deal on flights from Washington, DC to key West round trip. $218 for the flight and with Elizabeth’s special for September how can you go wrong…don’t answer that.  Brady The Bradster just popped through his first two teeph. He is resting easier and has resumed taking calls. The new teeph are on the bottom gum and Elizabeth has noticed gnaw marks on his bassinet. She suspects he is planning to make a break for it. Brady and family are heading to a family reunion in North Carolina and then on to the college world series for a game on Father’s Day. Does it get any better than that? June 3, 2010
 Heather Hot damn! Eden House finally has done the drawing for Heather’s masterpiece, ‘Over Backwards’. The winner of Heather’s piece is the Plyer family, we’ll be in touch. The winners of the Eden House $250 gift certificates are – Suzi Young, Amy Mueller, Keith Christie & Erin Medina. Heather will be moving to Hawaii the first of July (University of Hawaii) to complete her Master’s Degree. She is carrying a 3.8 overall GPA and has a 4.0 GPA this term. Go girl.  Dennis Hopper  Young Dennis Hopper Dennis Hopper was one of my favorites. Here are some TV commercials by da man. I think those for NFL are over the top. What do you think? One of my favorite movies with him is “Flashback” with Kiefer Sutherland. If you were one of the ‘flower children’ or ‘space cadets’ back in the ’70′s you might enjoy it.  The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones just released some of the songs that ended up on the cutting room floor when they originally released the album in May, 1972. The original album was 18 songs and is to this day is one of my all time favorites chunks of music. Needless to say, the 70′s were a very special time for me – we thought it would never end. I still think it was the all time best decade for music. Perhaps the decade should be from 1965 to 1975. Yes, this would be my pick. Strange that it coincides with the Vietnam conflict. Sorry, for the transgression. When the Stones recorded ‘Exile’ in the south of France they has left England over unpaid taxes and they were not in another time zone but on another planet. Maybe this is why it is such a great album. These new ten songs are on a CD with the original 18 songs. I would wait until the disc goes on sale. A fan of the Stones will want these songs and they do compliment the originals songs but they were left out for two reasons. The first album was already two discs to begin with and these songs aren’t as good – plain and simple. ‘Jamming With Edward!’ is another great disc by the Stones accompanied by Ry Cooder and Nicky Hopkins. It was recorded in 1969 during the ‘Let It Bleed’ session and released in 1972. As the title implies, they are jamming. This can be a tough to find one to find.  Tar Ball Policy Will we be called ‘Tar Heel’s now? Just kidding North Carolina. Yes, we’ve had a few tar balls wash up on shore. And we’ve had a couple calls about our Tar Ball Policy and you can imagine where I pulled this one from. After much deliberation here is our policy. If you don’t want to come down due to the tar balls – just give us a call and we’ll put your refund in the mail or issue you a credit. That was simple, wasn’t it? Key West has never been noted for it’s beaches and the last I went to the beach was about 20 years ago. That said, life on the water is proceeding as usual – sunset sails are still going out, kayak trips happening and fishing has been very good of late. If you planned a trip, if were me, I’d still come and have a great time. No oil on the bar room floors, that is spilt beer.  Hair Boom Now I have heard everything. Send in your tired and weary hair to help clean up the oil slick. That is, for those of you that still have any hair. What I am talking about is collecting HAIR (not scalps) and sending it off to be made into mats to soak up the oil slick. I have heard of using hair cuttings to sprinkle on the garden to keep deer and rabbits away but never this application. This is a no brain-er and even you and I can pull this off.

 Triclosan We don’t need this stuff. Triclosan is classified as a pesticide and it’s finding it’s way into more and more products daily. By products, I mean tooth paste, deodorants, cleaning supplies, liquid soaps and the list goes on and on. Is there no decency in the way companies do business anymore? The dollar had been the bottom line for many decades but like everything else in this society there are no longer any values and morals. It is no wonder that dogs and frogs are growing extra eyes – industry is messing with mother nature and as the saying goes, “mother nature don’t like being messed with.” Does this bother you as much it does me? How about an email to the FDA, since they regulate it’s use rather than the EPA. I don’t understand how this creepy shit can go on our highly developed and not to mention, civilized country. As my D.I. told me in boot camp, “take this dime and call everyone who gives a shit.” With email it is a lot easier that. Pass this message along to any ‘tree huggers’ that you might know and even moms should care ’bout this one. I’ll try to find a happier subject next time. I promise. Mike May 3, 2010

 James Luther 'Jim' Dickinson & Alex Chilton James Luther ‘Jim’ Dickinson and Alex Chilton , two of my favorite music people have recently passed away. They are right at the top of my fave list, both are from Memphis and are musically linked in more ways than one.
Among James many accomplishments was playing piano on the Rolling Stones’ hit “Wild Horses”, producing numerous artists albums and releasing several solo and group albums himself. As lead singer for the Box Tops, Alex enjoyed at the age of 16 a number-one international hit, “The Letter.” He also released a boat load of albums with The Box Tops, Big Star and as a solo artist. Alex is a bit twisted which is something I look for in an artist. If you haven’t already noticed this by the music played at the Eden House. James produced much of Alex’s music over the years and both were a major influence in the Memphis blues arena – the blue eyed blues, that is. James was 68 and Alex was 59 at the time of their demise. Doug Sahm and now this – I’m just not sure. Check ‘em out and if you are just a bit off center you will love these guys. For example, a couple of my favorites of James’ are ‘Free Beer Tomorrow’ and ‘Jungle Jim and the Voodoo Tiger’. I especially like ‘Set’ and ‘Alex Chilton 1970′, solo Chilton. Give yourself a treat and as Lou Reed would say, “take a walk on the wildside.” When times were simpler and the 8 transistor radio ate up the battery in a couple hours. “Give me a ticket for an airoplane, ain’t got time to take a fast train. Lonely days are gone, I’m a going home, my baby she wrote me a letter.”
